planning your maternity shoot
This is a question I get asked a lot - and the answer is ideally between 28-36 weeks - or as soon as your bump is showing. For most mums-to-be it is usually around this point. Whilst you settle into the third trimester but still feel active and mobile enough to enjoy the experience. If you decide last minute you want a Maternity Photo Shoot and worry you are too far along - please be assured as long as you are comfortable there is really no limitation. Obviously your bump will be bigger and you may be feeling less mobile + energetic - apart from that the only limitation is you baby having arrived!! I have had a mum having her photo shoot on her due date - which was really special & exciting! I can confirm no baby made an appearance but it is definitely a beautiful and memorable way to make this date.
The newborn photo shoot 'window'
Again this is an important question and one I am asked a lot too. It is usually recommend to book in any where form 4-14 days old to capture that small new-newborn window where little one is very curled up and sleeping throughout the day. As my style is not extremely posed I generally recommend anywhere within the first few weeks if you need a bit of extra time to settle into newborn life without feeling the rush and pressure of getting ready for a photo shoot. We will almost certainly get periods of sleepiness and awake time although it depends on your baby as they do become increasingly more alert & aware as time goes on.
I recommend pencilling in within the first days & weeks of your due date and we work from there. Should they come early or late I will keep time in my diary to work around as needed. And will make you aware if I have planned time off near your due date so you can factor this into your decision making. Obiously with newborns there are always surprises when they can come very early and I am always flexible and understanding. Just keep me posted and we will work it out - my priority is always for you to feel relaxed, happy and confident in this special time.
